Join us for this webinar with special guests Dr. Greg King (U of A Augustana Campus) and students from his AUENV 421 class. This is a capstone course in the Environmental Studies program. Blair Gour, Bryce Crow and Carter Willdig will take us through the potential of citizen science and about the project’s experiences using Flow2 and other sensors. Presenters will also explain the significance of this research to the local Camrose area.
Dr. Kevin McCullum, data scientist for Alberta Capital Airshed, will conclude with some information on how other groups can also collaborate with Airsheds for community-science and air quality data collection.
Presenters
Dr. Greg King is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus located in Camrose. His research investigates tree response to environmental drivers, specifically using tree-rings and dendrochronology. He has worked in northern and alpine ecosystems and is now applying research methods to urban forests and working on a regional climate history in the Beaver Hills Biosphere located east of Edmonton. Greg teaches a range of courses in the Environmental Science and Sustainability Studies majors at Augustana including a project-based Applications in Sustainability course as well as courses on climatology, soils, biogeography, and the science of climate change.
Dr. Kevin McCullum is a senior environmental engineer and the Data Manager for WCAS and ACA. Kevin holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta, with specialties in Ambient Air Quality and River Water Quality. Kevin was part of the Environmental Protection and Planning Committee (EPPC) of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) during the inception of the Air Quality Management System (AQMS) which included the updates to the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS). He has work much of his career in the air monitoring field working with air zones throughout western Canada, focusing on air quality data analysis and interpretation, monitoring instrumentation, as well as dispersion and transport modeling. Kevin also works closely with universities working collaboratively with University of Alberta, University of Regina, and First Nations University and has a passion to deliver partnerships and monitoring research capabilities.
